What the government says
Official statements are reproduced in full, dated and sourced. We do not hide the inconvenient ones or trim them to their weakest sentence. Where an official account is better evidenced than ours, this page says so.
A standing offer. Any office named in this archive may send a statement, a correction or a document. We publish it in full alongside the material it responds to, at the same prominence, unedited, with no commentary attached to the quote itself. Write to evidence@whogavetheorder.in.

The record
Every official statement we hold
Press notes, press conferences, affidavits, replies in the legislature — logged as they are made.
How we treat an official denial
A denial is evidence. It is on the record, attributable, and commits an office to a position that documents can later confirm or contradict. We publish it as carefully as anything else.
It is not an answer, though. "No excessive force was used" does not tell you who authorised the deployment. The third column tracks that gap.
When an official reply says no record exists
A reply stating that no record exists is filed as primary evidence. It establishes what a public office has said about its own files.
It does not establish that no order was given. Orders are given orally, and records are mislaid, misfiled and withheld. We file the reply, state what it establishes, and leave the underlying question open.
